Maxwell Hill or Bukit Larut is the oldest hill resort in Malaysia.It is also holds the record of the wettest place in Malaysia.In 1884,it was established by William Edward Maxwell,Assistant British Resident of Perak.

Maxwell Hill 's daily temperature ranges from 10 degree Celcius to 25 degree Celcius at 1,250meter above sea level.

Maxwell Hill is located 9 kilometers away from Taiping town and 290 kilometers from the city of Kuala Lumpur. It is one of the least developed and also the smallest hill resort in the country. Only accommodations such as bungalows and rest houses are available here.

Nature lovers will appreciate the panoramic view of the daisies, tulips, pansies, marigold, roses, dahlia that are planted here. The undeveloped hill enables many birds, squirrels and gibbons to flourish here. You will be able to see the lush tropical rainforests with various flora and fauna.

Gunung Hijau trail is one of the popular one which leads you to the peak of Gunung Hijau.You will be able to see many species of birds, the exotic wild orchids, ferns and other flora and fauna.

What to See and Do

Visitors to Maxwell Hill are mainly nature lovers, bird watchers, day trippers and tourists who seek for a cooling climate and relaxing gateway. By just strolling or unwinding in the nature's splendor is a beautiful experience. Birdwatchers can follow the Gunung Hijau Trail which spirals up towards the summit of Gunung Hijau (1449m) to enjoy the plentiful bird life.

Getting There :
On the North-South Highway, take the Taiping exit out of the highway. Follow the signs to Taiping after the toll and from Taiping town head towards the lake gardens. There are signs showing the way to Bukit Larut ( Maxwell Hill) Base Station : Reaching the top of the hill requires a four-wheel drive jeep. Since private vehicles are not allowed entry, the resort authority caters to this service. The main office is also situated at the bottom of the hill where you can make bookings for your rides up and down the hill or to stay overnight. Beginning from 7am each day, you can get Land Rover services at the foot of the hill. The service runs once every hour and ends at 6pm.
