Tanjung Batu Beach

Tanjung Batu is probably one the most inaccessible and wild stretch of coastline on the northern Borneo coast, between Bintulu and Miri. It's a unspoiled, and , arguably so, a very beautiful place. Tanjung Batu Beach is more scenic and its amenities are well preserved. Strong currents and storm tides tear at the rock face, resulting in a constant change of aspect.

One can reach the area best via the Tusan cliffs, on a branch road from the coastal Miri-Bintulu road. From there one has to wade through a river, and hike along the coast southwards for ca. 45 minutes. This can be done only at low tide, as the path leads along the shoreline.

A place to enjoy the sun, sea and sandy beaches and to have fun. An ideal spot for family and friends to gather and have a picnic or even camping and fishing. There are changing and wash rooms available for an additional comfort to your outing. Take a break from home cooking and have a barbecue here, using the barbecue pits provided or just simply head to the food and drink stalls nearby - offering delicacies from "satay and rojak" to ice-cream and coconut juice or just enjoy the sunset and sea breeze in your evening walk.

Fancy a rocky and sandy beach side-by-side? This unique feature happens to be the attraction to Tanjung Batu Beach (which is also how the name is given, "Rocky Isthmus"). It is a place where people in Bintulu jog and stroll their way enjoying the sunset and sea breeze in the evening while jogging along the beach, or the road with their families, apart from taking a sun-tanning session. However, beware the coastline during monsoon season, as there has been cases of drowning annually.
