Dodol

Being a famous Malaysian type of cake, Dodol is probably one of those few rare traditional food products that has survived modern-day proliferation and still being produced using traditional recipes. One can get the original Dodol in Melaka for it is considered as a signature cuisine in Melaka. It tastes and colors is varied depends on the ingredients but Dodol is usually known to be dark brown in color.

Essentially, Dodol is made with coconut milk, jaggery or “Gula Melaka”, and rice flour. All these ingredients will then mix together and stir through the continuous progress until the sticky, thick and sweet Dodol is ready to be served. Normally, it takes up to 3 to 5 hours at high temperature to finish cooking Dodol. From the beginning until the end of cooking process, Dodol must be constantly stirred in a big wok and pausing in between would cause Dodol to burn and that will spoil the taste and aroma. Dodol is completely cooked when it is firm and does not stick to fingers when touched. As an authentic traditional Malay delicacy, Dodol is mostly served during festivals such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri. There are also different flavor of Dodol such as the famous Durian flavor, banana flavor, coconut flavor, and many more.
