The Islamic Museum or aslo known as Balai Syura (Syura Hall) is located along Jalan Tengku Chik which is close to the Istana Balai Besar. It was hailed as the "Annexe To Mecca" for its role in developing Islam in the region in its heyday.

This museum used to be Kelantan’s first school of Islamic studies which is housed in a large two-storey traditional wooden house. The establishment of this Islamic Museum testifies to the importance the state places on the religion.

In this museum, visitors can know and discover more about the history of Islam in the state. It displays and exhibits Islamic fine arts,crafts and also photographs of the belongings of Prophet Muhammad and Islamic historical sites. The history of Islam in Kelantan is well documented in the artifacts and inscriptions exhibited here. The setting-up of the Islamic Museum is timely as Kelantan is one of the centres of Islamic Learning.

Getting there

By Bus
There are regular air-conditioned express bus services between Kuala Lumpur's Putra bus station, stopping at major towns in Kelantan before reaching Kota Bharu.

By Plane
From Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Airlines flies twice daily. You'll land at Kota Bharu's Sultan Ismail Petra Airport , about 20 minutes outside the city. From there, you can catch a taxi to the city.

By Rail
Express trains depart daily to Kelantan and other majot towns up north. Two train stations serve Kota Bharu town. Disembark at the Wakaf Bharu Station. From there, you can board either the No: 19 or 27 bus into the city.

By Road
There's two routes you can take from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu. The overland route takes you eastward along the Karak Highway to Kuantan in Pahang a journey of about 3 hours, and from there, to Kota Bharu another 4 1/2 hours' drive. The inland route to Kota Bharu turns off the Karak Highway at Bentong and proceeds northwards to Raub and Gua Musang, before reaching Kota Bharu.
