Remarkably, this serene expanse was transformed from abandoned tin mining grounds\u2014a testament to the town&#8217;s history before peace (<em>Taiping<\/em> means &#8216;great peace&#8217;). The land was generously donated by the prominent Chinese capitalist, Chung Keng Quee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed under the direction of town planner Charles Compton Reade, the gardens were officially opened by Frank Swettenham, the British Resident of Perak. The 64-hectare park is famous for its ten scenic, man-made lakes and ponds, reflecting the lush surroundings and the backdrop of Bukit Larut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major highlight is the iconic <strong>Raintree Walk<\/strong>, a pedestrian path lined with majestic <em>Samanea saman<\/em> trees, some over a century old, whose massive branches create a natural, shady canopy. The gardens offer tranquil activities like jogging, cycling, and paddle boating.
