Saklıkent National Park, located near Fethiye in southwestern Turkey, is famed for sheltering one of the world’s deepest gorges, Saklıkent Canyon. The name itself translates to “Hidden City,” fitting for a spectacular geological wonder carved by the Karaçay River over millennia, reaching depths of up to 300 meters and stretching about 18 kilometers long.
Visitors enter the canyon by crossing a short wooden bridge over the initial stream before the real adventure begins. For much of the year, exploring involves wading through the ice-cold, crystal-clear river water, which offers a refreshing escape from the summer heat. The initial 4 kilometers are generally accessible for hiking, featuring narrow passages, slippery rocks, and the challenge of climbing small waterfalls. Some visitors enjoy a natural mud bath found along the route.
Beyond trekking, the national park area offers thrilling outdoor activities such as rafting, canyoning, ziplining, and even skiing in the winter months. Riverside cafes provide a relaxing spot to enjoy local food near the rushing water. Saklıkent is best visited between April and October, making it an unforgettable destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers exploring Turkey’s Turquoise Coast.
