Singapore Botanic Gardens

The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a magnificent 82-hectare tropical garden located near the Orchard Road district. In 2015, it achieved a significant milestone by becoming Singapore’s first and only UNESCO World Heritage Site, being the first tropical botanic garden to receive this honour.

Founded in 1859 by the Agri-horticultural Society, the Gardens played a crucial role in the region’s economic history, particularly in advancing rubber cultivation through scientific research. Today, it serves as a vital botanical institute for research, conservation, and education.

A major highlight is the National Orchid Garden, which houses an incredible collection of over 1,200 species and 2,000 hybrids of orchids. Other key features include the dense Rainforest, the educational Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden, and various thematic walks like the Learning Forest and Ginger Garden. Open daily with free general admission (except for the Orchid Garden), it offers a serene, world-class green escape amidst the bustling city.
