Chatuchak Weekend Market

Chatuchak Weekend Market, affectionately known as “JJ Market,” is Bangkok’s most famous and the world’s largest weekend market, a veritable mega-maze of commerce and culture. Spanning over 35 acres and featuring more than 15,000 stalls, it attracts over 200,000 visitors every Saturday and Sunday.

The sheer variety of goods for sale is astounding: the market is divided into 27 numbered sections, where shoppers can find everything from trendy fashion and accessories to handcrafted Thai souvenirs, beautiful ceramics, vintage clothing, home décor, and an enormous selection of plants. It is a prime destination for bargain hunters, though haggling is a necessary skill to secure the best deals.

Beyond the retail therapy, Chatuchak is a must-visit for its vibrant atmosphere and spectacular street food. Must-try items include the famous coconut ice cream served in a coconut shell, refreshing fruit smoothies, and a plethora of local Thai snacks and dishes. The central clock tower, built in 1987, serves as a great meeting point in the sprawling labyrinth.

To beat the heat and the heaviest crowds, visitors are advised to arrive early, ideally right when the market opens around 9:00 AM on Saturdays or Sundays.
