Tegallalang Rice Terraces

The Tegallalang Rice Terraces, located just north of Ubud, are one of Bali’s most iconic and photographed landscapes. These breathtaking emerald-green terraces cascade down the steep slopes of a valley, forming a mesmerizing, sculpted tapestry against the backdrop of lush jungle.

The terraces are a living testament to the ancient Subak irrigation system, a complex, centuries-old method of water management deeply connected to Balinese Hindu philosophy. This system promotes sustainable, cooperative farming and has earned recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visitors can explore the area by taking leisurely walks along the narrow paths that wind between the paddies, offering intimate views of the rice cultivation process. The experience provides a serene escape from the bustle of central Bali.

For the more adventurous, the area has become famous for its giant Bali swings and photo spots suspended high over the valley, offering thrilling perspectives of the scenery. Along the main road overlooking the fields, numerous cafes offer refreshments, allowing visitors to sip on a fresh coconut while soaking in the panoramic, UNESCO-recognized beauty of Bali’s agricultural heritage. Early morning visits are often recommended to avoid crowds and capture the softest light.
