Penang Road Teochew Cendol

Penang Road Famous Teochew Cendol is a legendary street food icon located on Lebuh Keng Kwee, just off Penang Road in George Town. Tracing its history back to a humble roadside stall founded in 1936 by Mr. Tan Teik Fuang, this establishment has been serving its signature shaved ice dessert for generations.

The quintessential offering is the classic Cendol, a perfect remedy for Penang’s tropical heat. It features a mound of finely shaved ice topped with bouncy, green pandan jelly noodles, creamy fresh coconut milk, soft red beans, and generously drenched in rich, fragrant gula Melaka (palm sugar syrup). The balance between the sweetness of the syrup and the creaminess of the coconut milk is highly praised.

Despite its simple, often standing-room-only roadside setup, long queues are a common sight, attesting to its fame among locals and tourists alike. While famous for its Cendol, the stall complex often offers other local delicacies like Assam Laksa and Ais Kacang. The dedication to its decades-old family recipe has solidified its status as a must-try culinary stop in Penang.
