The Puspa Iptek Sundial is an educational science and technology center primarily known for its unique architectural feature: a massive functioning sundial. Located in Kota Baru Parahyangan, Padalarang, Bandung, West Java, it was inaugurated on May 11, 2002, coinciding with Indonesia’s National Education Day.
The name itself is an acronym: Puspa stands for Pusat Peragaan Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Teknologi (Center for the Exhibition of Science and Technology), while Sundial refers to its function as a sun clock. The building uniquely houses two large sundials—a horizontal one on the roof and a vertical one on the facade. For these features, it received two awards from the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) in 2002 for having the Largest Horizontal Sundial in Indonesia and being the First Integrated Vertical and Horizontal Sundial in the country.
Beyond the time-telling structure, the facility acts as a hands-on science museum, featuring over 180 interactive exhibits covering mechanics, physics, and other sciences. The building’s design is part of a larger concept reflecting the configuration of the Sun, Earth, and Moon in relation to the main gate of Kota Baru Parahyangan. It serves as a major educational landmark for the Bandung area.
