Caringin Tilu

Caringin Tilu, often affectionately nicknamed Cartil, is a popular highland tourist area located in the Cimenyan district, Bandung, West Java. Its name translates from Sundanese to “Three Banyan Trees,” referring to the historical presence of three large banyan trees in the area, though now only one remains, sometimes associated with a legend involving former President Soekarno.

The primary draw of Caringin Tilu is its stunning panoramic view of the Bandung Basin, which can be enjoyed both day and night. During the day, visitors are treated to sweeping vistas of green hills, tea plantations, and rice fields, offering fresh, cool air. At night, the area transforms, offering a spectacular “city light” view of the twinkling urban sprawl below.

The location is a network of spots, with Bukit Moko being one of the most famous vantage points, situated at a high altitude. Visitors often come to witness the beautiful sunrise and sunset.

Caringin Tilu itself generally has no entrance fee, though parking charges apply. The area is lined with various cafés and warungs (small eateries), such as Dapur Caringin Tilu, offering local Sundanese cuisine and beverages. It serves as an ideal spot for relaxing, de-stressing, and capturing picturesque photographs, especially after dark, despite the challenging, winding road leading up to it.
