The Alor Star Tower (Menara Alor Setar) is a prominent landmark and telecommunication tower situated in the heart of Alor Setar, the capital city of Kedah, Malaysia. Standing at an impressive height of 165.5 meters, it is the tallest structure in Kedah and was once the third tallest tower in Malaysia.
Officially opened in 1997, the tower’s design is inspired by Kedah’s nickname, ‘Jelapang Padi’ (The Rice Bowl of Malaysia), with its structure symbolizing a bundle of tied rice clusters (Serumpun Padi).
The tower serves dual purposes: as a crucial telecommunication facility managed by Telekom Malaysia and as a major tourist attraction. Visitors can ascend to the Observation Deck at 88 meters for breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the city, the vast paddy fields, and even Gunung Jerai on clear days.
For a unique dining experience, the tower features a Revolving Restaurant at 94 meters, offering uninterrupted 360-degree views as you dine. Newer attractions include the “STAR VIEW” open deck with glass-bottomed viewing platforms for the more adventurous. It also functions as an observatory for sighting the crescent moon to mark the start of Islamic months.
