Langkawi Seven Wells Waterfall

The Seven Wells Waterfall, known locally as Telaga Tujuh, is one of Langkawi’s most captivating natural attractions. Located at the base of Gunung Mat Cincang, the island’s second-highest peak and part of the UNESCO Global Geopark, its name refers to the seven natural freshwater pools fed by separate cascading streams.

The waterfall is split into two main sections: the Lower Pools and the more challenging Upper Pools. Reaching the lower section requires a relatively short climb of about 200 steps, offering a rewarding plunge pool beneath a striking 91-meter vertical cascade. For the adventurous, climbing a total of around 600 steps leads to the upper section—the namesake “seven wells”—which feature pools of varying sizes connected by natural rock slides.

Beyond its scenic beauty and refreshing swimming spots, Telaga Tujuh is steeped in local folklore. Legend claims the seven wells serve as a bathing place for heavenly fairies, and the water is believed to possess mystical healing properties. Visitors should exercise caution, especially during the wet season (September to December) when rocks are slippery, and be wary of opportunistic monkeys. It remains a spectacular destination for hiking, nature photography, and escaping the tropical heat.
