Terengganu State Museum

The Terengganu State Museum (Muzium Negeri Terengganu), located in Kampung Losong, Kuala Terengganu, holds the distinction of being the largest museum complex in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Opened in 1996, its architecture is a stunning modern interpretation of traditional Malay palace design, set across a sprawling 27-hectare landscaped compound.

The complex is composed of four interconnected main buildings, alongside dedicated sections like the Maritime Museum and Fisheries Museum, and several reconstructed traditional houses on the grounds. The main building houses nine distinct galleries covering diverse aspects of the state’s heritage. Key exhibits include textiles, royal regalia, traditional weapons, and artifacts related to Terengganu’s oil and gas industry.

A highlight of the collection is the Terengganu Inscription Stone (Batu Bersurat), considered the earliest evidence of Islam in the Malay Peninsula. The museum offers a comprehensive journey through Terengganu’s rich history, culture, seafaring trade, and natural resources, making it an essential stop for history and culture enthusiasts.
