Siti Khadijah Market

Siti Khadijah Market (Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah) is the bustling, iconic central marketplace of Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Named in honour of Prophet Muhammad’s wife, Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, who was a successful businesswoman, the market is famously dominated by female traders, embodying a strong local culture of female entrepreneurship.

Architecturally, the market is striking: a modern, four-storey building known for its unique octagonal shape with a central atrium. The lower levels are dedicated to the traditional wet market, brimming with fresh produce, seafood, and local spices. As visitors ascend, they find stalls selling dried goods, famous Kelantanese delicacies like Nasi Kerabu and an array of kuih (traditional cakes), alongside local snacks and drinks.

The upper floors serve as a haven for non-food items, offering vibrant silk batik, traditional songket textiles, and exquisite local handicrafts—making it a prime spot for souvenir shopping. A visit here is a full sensory experience, reflecting the heart and soul of Kelantanese daily life, commerce, and culture. The market is typically open daily from morning until late afternoon.
